the long table workshop series

The Long Table is a monthly workshop series at The Stranger, bringing together artists, makers, locals, travelers, and the creatively curious for an evening of learning, conversation, and hands-on experience. Held on the fourth Thursday of every month, each gathering is led by a different instructor and designed to be approachable, welcoming, and engaging, whether you're picking up a new skill or simply looking for a reason to spend time with good people.

We're doing this because we believe some of the best moments happen when strangers pull up a chair and make something together. The Long Table is our way of celebrating creativity, craftsmanship, and community while supporting the artists and makers who make Sisters such a special place. Timed to coincide with Sisters' Fourth Friday Art Walk the following evening, each workshop offers a chance to slow down, learn something new, and become part of the story unfolding around the table.

Upcoming Workshops

The Long Table: Weaving Workshop with Sylvia Friday (New Date!)
$65.00

Come celebrate summer and the fecundity of life! In this hands-on class, we will weave wild-harvested cattail leaves into a faerie-sized basket. You will learn basic techniques and patterns with the freedom to explore your personal style and creativity. This workshop is for folks who wish to deepen their relationship with the natural world and with faeries.

Sylvia Friday is an itinerant basket maker, folk artist, storyteller and teacher. Gathering sticks and sharing stories, she tends wild plants and teaches basketry up and down the west coast. The spirit of her work is woven from her relationship with fiber plants, with her ancestors and with the basketry community. She loves to help people develop a relationship with natural materials and with their hands.

Tuesday, August 18th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at The Stranger Lodge, 511 W Cascade Ave, Sisters, OR 97759. $65 includes all materials.
